40-hour programs

Blue Horizon offers two editions of Cross-Cultural Communications’ signature 40-hour foundation training:

  • The Community Interpreter® Online (TCIO)

These programs meet the 40-hour training requirement for the two U.S. national certification programs for medical interpreters: the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) and the National Board of Certified Medical Interpreters (NBCMI).

Short Courses

Do you need continuing education units (CEUs)? Or do you want basic instruction—or advanced professional development? If you’re interested in specific topics, our self-paced short courses may be just the ticket.

See course descriptions for more information, including CEUs. Just like TCIO and TMIO, you’ll get the complete package—a video instructor, engaging activities, textbooks, videos of interpreters on the job and more.

Live Training and TOTs

Live Training

These courses feature real-time instruction in a live online format. You interact with high-quality instructors through live video streaming; standard high-speed internet is required. Please check the dates and times for each individual course to be sure they fit your schedule.

Live trainings are intensive. You see and hear your fellow students. You work in pairs and small groups to perfect your decision-making and skills. You watch videos. You even perform role plays. You get handouts or e-textbooks. It’s lively and fun.

The Community Interpreter® TOT

Trainings of Trainers (TOTs)

Only at Blue Horizon can you attend online the famous TOTs of Cross-Cultural Communications. Whether you want to get licensed to teach The Community Interpreter® International or another program, or you need to learn how to teach interpreters online, you’ll find no other TOTs in the world like these.
